Steve did seem like a good guy on the phone and Im sure he is more concerned about doing quality work than a dealer tech. I know it doesnt really matter but Im kind of hung up on having the 1k done at a shop in case there are any warranty issues in the future. I do think I will do the rest of the services after this myself.

Another funny thing too is both shops recommend the HD Syn3 oil, kinda figured theyd be into Mobil1, Redline or Amsoil, etc.

I hear ya. The problem I had with my bike I never would have been able to diagnose on my own (intake manifold seals were shot) and I wanted to get the bike up on a dyno anyway. There's a lot of stuff I can do myself, but when It's something that's beyond my knowledge, tools or abilities I gotta take it in.

I, too find it interesting both recommended Harley Syn. Just wish it was cheaper!

I used Motor City HD service one time for warranty work on my new, at the time, '04 Sporster and have never been back. They had my bike 2 weeks for a 15 minute job - replace the choke cable.

I've heard good things about American and mixed reviews about Brighton. If you look in the Bad Dealers thread or do a search, you can find some threads on both American and Brighton (good reviews are in there, too)
Barjbar, ditto on MC Harley... last year I called. made an appointment to bring my Dyna in on a Monday for it's 20K... they didn't get to it until Thursday... HUNH? MC has demonstrated over and over again to me they don't want my business, so even though it's only 3 miles form my house, I no longer go there for anything.
