Default highway sportster riding

Hey sportster people,
I just got a 1200 custom with a half windshield. I have a half helmet without a visor. I find it's pretty windy going about 55 on the street. What's it like on the highway? Is it pretty stable? How fast can I go comfortably? Should I get a full face helmet?
Thanks for the advice.

Mike

Unless you get a geezerglide, you are always going to catch some wind as it comes up from the forks as well. I think for the most part, you get used to it. It's just part of riding a scoot.

Howdy Mike. The wind and the stability of the bike are somethings that you will get used to. When I first rode a bike in the early 80's, those were some of the things that I had to get used to also. After I rode for a while, I never even noticed them. You will too. Enjoy your Sporty.

keep your helmet pulled tight and let er rip, you'll get used to it, or you'll trash the windshield, or you'll get a taller one!!

I think you'll be fine. Start slow and work your way up to higher speeds. You'll get the hang of the higher speeds quickly. Like Mike said, keep your helmet tight, and let her rip...

Yes, they are stable, you can go fast. Comfortably fast is a matter of opinion...I say yes. My 883C will easily do 90 mph.
A full face helmet is a good idea for a lot reasons...but then the helmet issue is also a matter of opinion.

I know we get some strong, strong winds around here and they blow around a little but you get used to it. My 1200C cruises on the highways with no problems whatsoever.

Sidewinds always take getting used to. As far as wind goes, I have a full windshield and wear a full face helmet on longer rides. Im getting "geezerlike" as old geeze would say. One thing you might try is to either buy a full face helmet or spend $7 on a full shield for your current helmet and see how big a difference it makes.
I forget where you live and what the weather is like there right now, but I find that tempature and length of ride have a lot to do with my helmet and windshield chhoices. Ride and experiment...remember happiness lies in the journey, not just the destination.
