Default Apes in the wind?

I'm considering 12" - 14" apes on my 09 RKC. I'm 6'0".

I do not ride with a windshield. I do ride in the wind. A lot. For 4-5 months out of the year, it gets pretty windy out here in the southwest. 25mph sustained, 45mph gusts today.

I wear a half and sunglasses most of the time, sometimes a modular.

Anyone have experience riding with apes in similar conditions? I'm concerned about turning into a parasail, and just trying it is an expensive and time-consuming experiment.

Thanks.

Get a roll bag to mount on the apes and you'll be fine.

don't let apes scare you. Those are 16's on mine and I ride pretty much the same way you do, half-helmet, sunglasses and haven't used my windshield since the day I brought the bike home. I live right by Lake Ontario so I'm no stranger to wind. do apes catch more air? of course, but it's not all that drastic of a change. the change will be even less noticable to you since your not going with tall apes. you'll love the comfort and feel.

I have 12 inch apes on mine and it never bothers me even at a sustained 80mph. I am now considering going with 14's or 16's. If you are 6 foot I would go with something higher than 12's. I am only 5'7" and want to go higher.

Youll catch some air, but at 45mph gusts, its more the fact youre on a bike than the apes.

I'm 6-01 and run 16's, and am about to switch to 18's. Go big or go home!

These were 50+ sustained, gusts to 70+. Grew up in it. (SoDak) NO WIMPSHIELDS here.
Been running apes longer than I want to admit.
IF you can handle the 'crosswinds' at that level, you can handle the rest.

You're GD TO G!!!!! (Least ways IMFUO )

I have 16's on my fxst. IT was real uncomfortable until I switched from the footpegs to the floorboards. Now really nice. But you wont have that issue with your bike

I need to find someone with a Road King and 16's to let me sit on their bike. Time to go to bike night. On a related note... anyone deal with Hill Country Cycles out of Texas?

If they are not at least 16" they are not apes...heck how many times do we need to say that? LOL. Within 100 miles you will be used to the bars anot won't even be able to remember how it felt to ride with low bars...wind is no prob...
