Fuel Mileage on New Heritage Classic?
Hi guys, I just bought a new Heritage Classic last week and have over 500 miles on it already. Each tank full has acheived exactly 36 miles per gallon. I was expecting to get over 40 with this thing. No upgrades at all (bone stock). Since it is new, I have been very gentle with the throttle and not exceeded 70 mph. Does the mileage get better over time or do I need to have the dealer take a look at it?
If it helps, fuel has been Speedway 92 octane for all fill-ups. The reason I ask is because I have been reading a lot of threads on this forum that show most members are over 40 mpg.
ETA: Most riding (80%) has been highway since purchased.

I get better gas mileage with Reg gas. And if you want gas mileage take it out on the highway and drive 70 MPH or more to get better gas mile in high gear. I get 30 MPG around town and 44 MPG on the highway doing 75 t0 80 MPH.

I got about 37-38 mpg when I first got my '09 RK. Over the next 10k it went up to 40 mpg. I get 41 to 43 mpg now at 13k (long distance freeway commute at 75 mph avg)

Same with my '05 Deluxe. Mileage improved with more miles. Did a 95 BB Stage II and mileage got a little better. On the 95, I average 35 MPG in the city and probably 45 to 48 MPG on the highway, depending on how hard I push it. With my locale, average 40 MPG overall. Probably 1 to 2 MPG better now, across the board, than with the 88.

I suspected mine would get better after it got a few thousand miles on it. It is good to know I can look forward to not filling up as frequently. I am getting a little over 30 with 500 miles on my Fatty.

Week and a half on a new RK here. Got 42 going back and forth to Baton Rouge (about 160 mikes) on I-10 for work the other day. I was told by the dealer to not go too long at the same speed during breakin so I bounced around between 65 and 75 the whole trip.
My Low Rider got a bit better as I put a few thousand miles. In that case it will be sweet.
