Feedback - Sportster 1200 Low
My wife recently obtained her MC endorsement after completing the Rider's Edge course. She's contemplating the purchase of a XL 1200 Low. I'd appreciate thoughts and comments regarding this potential purchase, particularly from woman riders with Sportster experience.
My wife is smart, confident and has the means to develop her skills slowly over time (high school parking lot and quiet residential area within easy reach). She's also around 5'2" and 135 lbs. She felt quite comfortable on the bike on the showroom floor at the local dealership. She also did very well during the RE course.
Thanks for you input!

If she's comfortable with it as you say, then get it. Make sure you add the engine guards, it will make her less concerned about droping/scratching the bike and she can concentrate on technique.

PS. She WILL drop it. As well as any other bike she gets, we ALL do!

Let her go for it........the 1200 low is a slick ride, especially since HD rubber mounted the engine. She MIGHT even let you zip around on it from time-to-time. Big fun for the buck around town and for a person her size, it is perfect as a tour bike with bags and windshield. No lack for power.....they are fast.
Agree on the engine guard! But if she stays off the front brake with the bar turned in a very low speed condition she won't drop it.

You say she felt comfy on the sportie. My ? is how well did her feet touch the ground? I ask because one of our riding friends is about that tall, and she is having touble. (may have to lower the scoot)
Also, has she tryed one of the Dynas, or Deuces, they may actually sit lower for shorter legs.
I guess my opinion is if you fit it, RIDE it!
If she is confident in her skills, she may want to "upgrade" soon too.
Anyway, I'm absolutly sure you guys will have a great riding experience together!!

RE: Feedback - Sportster 1200 Low
My wife liked the 1200 custom better than the low (there is 1/2 inch or less difference in seat height). She liked the bikes setup better, and dealers will deal on a custom....not on the "new" 1200 low. She is 5'7" and has no problems putting her feet on the ground. She did not like the weight/feel of the Dynas...I tried to talk her into one. she is happy with her sporty and that is what counts.
