Best 1 day ride out of Vegas?
My wife and I are flying into Vegas in a few weeks and I have reserved a Ultra for a day. So I am wondering which would be the best destination to head for? Red Rock canyon , Hoover Dam, etc.
It will be on a Friday if that makes a difference. I am very familiar with the strip and heading out to LVMS as usually on our trips to Vegas we have a race car in tow so this will be a different trip for us and a chance to see if we may someday want to replace our Road King with a Ultra.
Thanks, Keith

Everyone must be renting bikes in Vegas, this is about the 4th thread in the past two weeks asking the exact same question.
Red Rock Cyn is pretty but not a long ride at all. You can get there, ride thru and be back to the strip in an hour depending on traffic. Of course you can always stop along the way, but the point is to ride!
Hoover Dam is incredible, one of my favorite sites. But on a weekend it's going to take forever to get there and out of there because they are doing construction. During the week it isn't too bad but the last time (just 2 months ago) I made the mistake of heading to AZ out of Vegas going over the dam. I took 2 hours to go 10 miles. They have vehicle checks at both ends and on weekend they seem to check everyone. Bikes can go right thru but you have to wait in line with everyone else. The traffic backs up for hours.
Valley of Fire is also a beautiful ride, about 35 miles outside of Vegas but it could be a 1/2 day or 3/4 day ride.
Then like someone mentioned, make a really long day and go see Zion.
If you just want to putt around, you can spend the whole day just riding around Vegas and the surrounding areas. From Boulder City, out to North Las Vegas, out toward Summerlin, back toward the south and then out to henderson is going to be 100 mile ride or more.
Mt Charlston is another idea.
Have fun and remember it's going to be HOT.

Thanks Frank, I definitely don't want to get stuck in traffic so I will stay away from Hoover this time. I will probably do Valley of fire and a couple of other close venues. I will also consider Zion.

That is what I am thinking, just printed some maps from the dealers website that was posted on another thread and those look like great
venues for a day ride. Can't wait now this should be great.

From my experience go to the Dam from Vegas on Fri should not be a problem. Doing that on a Sun. is not good. Most of the Dam traffic is going to Vegas on Fri. heading out on Sun. If things get backup you can always turnaround. At least give the Dam a shot.

One hour south to Hoover Dam, one hour south to Kingman, and then one hour west to Oatman on Old Route 66. Have lunch and check out the touristy shops. Head back to Vegas through Bullhead City and Laughlin. Hoover Dam, Route 66, and Oatman are worth the trip but the rest is mostly straight desert roads. The Valley of Fire and Red Rock are more picturesque but your wife might really like Oatman and you will both enjoy the ride and view up the (first gear) twisties to Oatman.
Death Valley is also a good day trip from Vegas but will be too hot at the end of June.
