The word that best describes the different state laws. TRAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of them seem utterly ridiculus.

Wherever you drive or ride... Local and state laws prevail. Seems like for some reason they have been cracking down on Harleys with loud pipes. I read in the AMA mag about NY cracking down on helmets, exhausts, and other infractions , in the article they were saying that the LEO's were pulling over bikes only which may be cause for a law suit.

Default avoid the northway

Seems to me that they will concentrate there efforts, where it will have the most impact.
So from Mass. if you take the scenic route you can avoid Interstate 87 and not add a lot of travel time if you account for getting stuck in a road block.I would take route 2 from North Adams,Ma over to Cohoes,Ny and then up 9N to Lake George

I think that generally it is the rider's behavior rather than the bike that attracts the law onto you. I have never run a stock exhaust on a Harley and I have never been ticketed, or even stopped.

Actually, I have only been stopped once on my bike and that was in Louisiana because I was stupidly riding without a helmet thinking one was not required. The officer explained the law and asked me if I had a helmet after I told him that I thought a helmet was not required in LA. I dug mine out of my T-Bag and he said I was good to go and did not issue me a ticket. Good people.

As an example, in Illinois, you cannot have tint on the front windows in a car. You *can* have tint on the front windows of your car in Florida. Thus, someone from Florida, driving a car titled and registered in Florida, traveling in or through Illinois does NOT get a ticket for window tint.

This is not correct. In regards to the window tint thing, Illinois CAN give a ticket which could and probably include a fine but they can't make you take it off.

Here is Oregon we are allowed to have tint but not in CA. I was pulled over and of course the cop was a jerk. Told me if I pulled it off right there he wouldnt' give me a ticket. I told him to go screw himself, I can afford his f--ing ticket. I think it cost me $30 which I just mailed in.

If you live in Ca and get a tint ticket, it's a fix-it. You have get it signed off by showing them you have removed it. But of course, if you want to pay a higher fine, they will not force you to "fix it". And someone asked in another post if it was about revenue or safety.

Same with pipe, they can give a ticket for being too loud but they can't force you to put on quiet pipes or "fix it" if you are from another state.

Your friend is a dumbass and you should not go anywhere with him. Continuing your relationship will only lead to trouble and heartache.

A person is 100% under the laws of where ever they are in the US. Unless they are a diplomat from another country. They can get by with murder and some have.

Well, that's a bit harsh. Yeah, he's obviously way off base on this issue, but HE will be the one who may get hassled, not us.
