Happens with taller bars occasionally. Loosen the clamp, push the bars back wehre you want them and retighten. I have read that emery cloth around the bars will help keep this from happening but am yet to try it.

Yup, thats what my buddy said who has 20" apes on his. He gets it from time to time and he just adjusts and retightens.
Well, in the sportster section you've been asking for ideas that aren't available yet and would like to see for our bikes...maybe something that would prevent the slippage
Happens every now and then with the apes. The first time it happened I was on a long trip and hit a hole hard and the bars came back a little and it felt better then where they were so I kept them there since.

HAH! Same thing happened to me on the Road Glide with 18" apes. My dad had them waaay forward, and while riding up in the mountains on a shoddy road, they got pulled down, I mean DOWN to my knees almost!
So I stopped and jerked them back up while standing in front of the bike. The bars found their "groove" and I got back on the bike, and now the bars were alot closer to me, and felt great.
ok, bout to re-adjust. what torq settings do you guys set the clamp at? Or do you just tighten the hell out of them?
Pretty damn tight, just don't bust the wrench or strip out the head. When I had tall bars on mine, that happened every time I went across the I-40 crosstown in OKC!
