Motorcyclist hurt in collision with stoned, unlicensed driver

A 17-year-old teenager driving without a licence and high on drugs caused a crash that sent one man to hospital during the weekend, Saanich police said.

On Saturday, around 5:45 p.m., a Saanich teen was driving his parents' car on Hartland Avenue near Interurban Road when he pulled a U-turn in front of an approaching motorcycle, police spokesman Sgt. John Price said. The Harley-Davidson T-boned the driver's side of the car, and the rider flew onto the hood of the car.

The motorcyclist, who Price said is an experienced rider, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The teen told Saanich police officers he had recently received a learner's permit. Police called his parents, who confirmed he doesn't have a licence.

The teen was given a ticket for driving without a valid licence and making an unsafe U-turn. He was also issued a 24-hour suspension for driving under the influence of marijuana.

"The day he goes to apply for his licence, he has those offences sitting there," Price said.

 

He should not be allowed to get his license and should do time for attempted vehicular homicide.

 

I doubt the punishment would be much worse in Texas, or any other US state for that matter. though they may have booked him on some minor drug charges, which would most likely not lead to any jail time.

 

In Pennsylvania driving while under the influence of any kind of drugs is the same as a DUI. If there is an accident that involves injury or death, while under the influence of any kind of drugs, you get a nice spot in the state pen for 3-1/2 years.

 

The absolute worst thing that will happen to him is he will be denied a license untill he is 19 and maybe a $500cdn "thats a $360us "fine.

 

YEP!! South Florida is super super strict about stuff like that and they have a "no tolerance" policy. Meaning that cops are not allowed to make any judgment calls in a situation like this. Their job is to make the arrest and let the court decide.

In a case like this, he would be tried as an adult.

But, then, did you guys notice how amature that column was written? This whole thing could have happened while some kids were goofing around. It says the bike "T-Boned" the car but the rider only wound up on top of the hood. So, the rider wasn't going more than 5 miles per hour? I think it was just a bunch of kids goofing around and some inexperienced high school kid wrote this article for his journalism class in school

 

I lived in Victoria for 4 years. Everyone I knew there smoked bud before doing anything. You could stand in front of the cop shop with a waterpipe and you're more likely to get a cop leaving work have a toke than get busted by a cop on duty.

Add the abnormally high percentage of seniors and tourists, riding there is always an adventure... and rarely a good one.

 

What a joke! While I hate Jersey, here he would have gotten a ticket for the driving, the illegal u turn, a DUI, no license till he turned 21, and probably have to go on probation for at least a year. One more reason to stay out of Canada!

 

A good time for a lawsuit.

 

24 hour suspension from what? He has no license, what are they suspending?
