Sportbike recommendation!

That bad after 20-30 miles? I found the riding position pretty upright and also good for your back since the road bumps isn't transfered straight to your spine like they are on a cruiser. But every person is different. Dad thought his wrists hurt after 10 miles on the 599. Guess that's the way it is the first time you try something completely different. The body needs some time to adjust.
Oh, and no need to go really fast to have fun with the 599. The light, flickable feel is there as soon as you jump on the bike.
I see now that I have to try some different bikes before I make up my mind...

My brother had a Suzki of that style and I had to ride it to his home for him. (He was moving I think and that's they way he could get it there all at once.) I hated riding it. (not being snobbish, I had an Intruder 800 at the time). The ride was just across town (20 - 30 miles) and I was bushed when I got there. My body just does not like being in the posistion while riding.
Also, I'm not the type that must go really, really fast.

RE: Sportbike recommendation!
Just a personal opinion, I recently bought a HARLEY NIGHT ROD and I must say after riding it for awhile, installing cfr pipe & pcIII usb & dynoing bike, I was VERY impressed with ther power of the bike & price was good. If you cant afford new, look @ used ones. Just Another bikers opinion, Have A good day,

RE: Sportbike recommendation!
OK....at the risk of getting flamed I'll say this...
I luv my harley - wouldn't part with it for anything...BUT...
..I also luv my Ninja ZX600 and wouldn't part with it either. Owned it 12 yrs, my first new bike.
Two different bikes for two different reasons. When I have to get into the city quickly in rush hour traffic, or to go to work, I prefer the ZX600 - alot more manueverable in LIE traffic and easier to white-line (plus less of a likelihood it'll get stolen) The downsides: more cramped, less comfortable, and for a guy with a few sliped discs, more of a spine beater. NOT a long distance runner but good for short trips. And ya gotta enjoy being able to bring up the front wheel in 2nd gear!
Weekends, playtime, cruising - definitely the HD. Way more comfortable, more relaxed, less purposeful and more for the sake of it rather than the neccessity. Luv the feel, the sound, and the ride...with my back really luv the ride. Totally different expereince.
So, as for recommendations...decide what type of riding your going to do, what you want to get out of riding, whether its mere transportation or for fun, and then decide accordingly.
Good luck in whatever choice you make!

Absolutely! Made believers out of my Jap bike friends. I had to suffer all the usual jokes, but the laughing was over when we got to the twisties. I left them all in the dust at Deals' Gap!

It was probably a comonation of wrist/shoulders hurting and the rest of my body being tense as I was riding it on the freeway and I wasn't used to his ride. It was a nice bike, it just wans't for me.
