left the bike in the rain

Welcome to AZZWIPE central where you're guaranteed some (actually mostly) BS answers. I understand your concern. You sorta got most of your answers.
A good coat of wax.
A good waterproof cover that allows some airflow under and around the bike.
Find a piece of plywood and park the bike on it. Some soil is acidic or alkaline and when it rains it will splash on alum. and plated parts... not really good for some of them.
Try to cover the bike when dry.
Hope this helps.

Ignore the bashing ..My woman has an 09 FXDB, did not ride it in the winter (garage kept all winter) now keeps it under a light cover in her driveway and the aluminum is going to H#ll fast...I would definetely invest in the barn...Having to clean a bike after it rains?? No thanks.

What kind of rain and dirt do you people have that it is wrecking the bike??
I guess if you don't have it on cement or asphalt then put it on some plywood but I guess we don't have any of that acid rain where I live that will eat up the bike.

No comment, just felt that a post as ignorant as this one deserves a second chance to get ridiculed.

Better find someone with a barn or find another house with a garage.
Bikes left outside even under a cover get messed up pretty quick. Rusty parts, leather mold, oxydation, you name it.

IT will definitely survive, in tact. BUT that is still NOT a good 'thang' for the Ol' Boy.
BUT to help alleviate your 'fear', the one in the sig pic, is 44 this year, seen and sat in MANY a rain drop, STILL tickin'. So grab a rag when it FINALLY stops, wipe it down, wax it, then RIDE THE CHIT OUTTA IT, SON !!!!!!!
Oh yea, CONGRATS on the 'new' shack.
