Long trips go faster alone.

I like the freedom of solitude. 4900 mi last summer mostly alone. 6 days in the smokies the year before, just going wherever the front wheel pointed. No plan, no stress. As others have said, stop when you want, sleep when you want.

What do you guys/gals think about long rides by yourself?
I usually ride alone, but mostly it's the 88 mile work & home trip. Best ride I've taken was a 40,000 mile early spring-late fall jaunt. It was s'posed to be a buddy-ride with a couple others, but everyone else backed out. I loaded the '78 FLH up, hit the road in ~April, and made it back to Dad's in ~October. Only time I rode with a dude on an old WLA from Idaho Falls to Twin Falls.

Man I'll tell ya you guys are inspiring! I ride alone most of the time on my local 100 to 200 mile rides, but my longer solo rides were back in the early 90's before wife and kids. I did the Sturgis 50th solo in 90, which was probably my longest solo ride. Like others, I like doing what I want, when I want, and all at my own pace. Looking forward to some major solo rides after retirement - I've got a lot of routes on my bucket list.
