Should I dye my seat black?
Hey Guys,
I have been riding my current seat for a little while and I am starting to wonder if it would look better on my bike in black. I would dye the whole background (including the pin stripes) black and leave the pinup girl the way she is. One other option is to dye it black and do the stripes in red. I am leaning toward a solid black background though just to keep it from looking gaudy. I originally wanted it to really pop out at people for attention but think it may be a little much. What do you guys think? By the way, the stripes are carved in so you would still be able to see them in black, just not as apparently.

You will have to have the seat deglazed (strip the sealant off). You might be able to go around the artwork and save it, or you may have to redo the art work after it's deglazed. Either way it going to be a lot of work. If any oil based preservative was put on it it may not accept dye or come out streaked. You may get lucky and be able to put on the black dye without deglazing but you'll have to test a spot that doesn't show and see how it drys.
My dad does custom leather work so I've dealt with this in the past. Good luck on your project.

+1. With a few more accent pieces to match the seat, I would change my vote to "leave it alone".( That would then be 0 votes for black)
