Default HD Engine guards on a 1200C Sportster

What's everyone's opinion on this? Do they belong on them or save them for the heavier bikes.

Personally I don't think it would do much for the look of the bike as they are so large. If I felt the need for engine guards I would see if there are any of the smaller aftermarket guards or crash bungs (mushrooms) would fit.

I had a 1200 and I had engine guards on them. I am under the impression that it is not just the big bikes that have a chance to go down. It is much nicer to have a couple of scratches on the engine guard then on the bike itself. The mustache ones are a bit smaller than the regular one. With an engine guard you have a great place for your highway pegs.

Im not a engine guard fan, had a mustache bar on my Fatboy for a month or so, great comfort for streching out with the highway pegs but did not like the look. hands down if you drop it the guard will help. To me it kind of a toss up looks or function... some bikes end up looking good with one.

Bottom line its your bike if you think you need it or like it, get it.

If you like it, just do it.
Do you want to protect your bike better in case of a drop / (s)low speed drop?
If yes, get some.

Ride safe.

My wife's 1200C has them and it doesn't look too bad. I don't know what brand they are though, they were on there when we bought it. It helps that her bike has hard bags on it to kind of balance out the width between front and back. On the other hand I had a '77 Sportster with no bags that had them on when I bought it and I thought it looked dumb so I took them off.
