I don't like being on an interstate without a helmet, but it's prob just a psychological thing.

Aren't you really talking about degrees of dead at that point? If your head hits the pavement at 35 mph or 75 mph, you're probably dead either way. I like the choice but I don't buy the arguement that a helmet is needed less on back roads or lower speeds as opposed to freeways and higher speeds. Missouri should have just committed themselves and did away with the helmet law all together.

I was hoping the House would ammend the bill to take out the Interstate part, but they didn't. I just got back from a ride to Pittsburgh and back, and it was great to not HAVE to wear a helmet except in WV. When I ran into the rain, though, I was glad to have one along!

I-44, between Baxter Springs, KS and Joplin is interesting at best...scary at worst.

Agreed! Plus, you can't hardly get from Oklahoma into Missouri without at least starting out on I-44. Once you get in, you can venture off, but they'll probably have troopers stationed all along that 5 or so miles.

At least they are finally coming into some semblance of a normal State. CCW, now the helmet law. Maybe someday, they'll stop worrying about tinted windows on cages.

Most motorcyclist die in crashes under 45 mph. You are correct that the greater speed will affect the severity of the crash but, depending where you are on an interstate there may or may not be more vehicles involved.
By far, most motorcyclists die in intersections on surface streets.

In theory, you are perfectly capable of generating enough force to your head from a parking lot fall to crack your skull and possibly kill you. This law really makes no sense to me.

People complain about not having the freedom of choice, and now another state grants that and people are complaining that the law is backwards.

What happened to be happy with what's been given to you?
