I'm all for live and let live and earning your way through life by paying out respect, but.....

Sometimes all this talk about deference to 1%ers seems a little high school. People who "don't know" seem to be doing just fine, and those "who know" write/talk about them in such reverent tones. If that's your world and those are your rules, fine. But for the rest of us? Really?

I'll treat them the same way I treat any other human being, with the respect and dignity anybody deserves, until they prove otherwise. No more. No less.

And if someone wants to quiz me on what every color/patch/logo means, I may fail the quiz, because I know some stuff but prolly lots more I don't.

But I still will ride my Harley.

A lot of folks seem to think that MCs don't exist because they've never seen one where they hang out. The logical answer is that MC's do exist and they don't hang out where you do. The only thing you need to remember is...you go to their hangout you follow their rules. If they come to yours...you follow their rules.

As somebody who doesn't go to hangouts of pretty much any sort, that works fine for me!

Most will never find themselves around 1%'ers, but I have found myself around them on some occasions at places I have hung. It certainly does not hurt to have some education of what MC's and their members are about, but basically if you use common sense and show some respect, as you should around anyone for that matter, there should never be an issue. All the folks I have been around or met have been cool guys who just like to have a little fun. If you base your assumptions on media stereotypes, you will be as the OP said "Naive". I would just hate to see some newbie get drunk and walk up to some members and start getting nosey or mouthy. That could be a harsh lesson learned.

And to the OP.....I was just messin' with ya in my first post to this thread. All in jest. You did bring up a good valid point.

So not being a part of the majority makes you the dregs of society? Sounds a bit elitist to me.

I read this and decided to have a say. Then I thought it'd be better off to sit in the hot tub for a spell and relax. So I did.

Having reached a slight level of mellowness - Screw you. Since I've been ripped off by 100% of the architects I've dealt with, my studied conclusion is that architects are the dregs of society.

Nobody said having knowledge of clubs made anybody a better rider.

Said several times in here, on this and other threads: Why drop in on a thread about something one has no interest in, and often no knowledge of, only to say something like, "I don't need/want to know anything about ..." Why not just shine it on?

I was trying to get a point across, even if I didn't come out quite right. Thanks for noticing.

WTF are you smokin'? Dude, I think the word you were lookin' so hard for was "dreggs" AKA the bottom stuff. Not "dredge" which is the machine you use to get stuff up from the bottom. Normally I'm not a spelling/grammar **** but sheesh.

The whole Aramaic thing .... just..... wow!

Look, "Architect" I run into your type from time to time and it's never a pleasure.

This topic is pretty simple, doesn't matter if you like it or not, clubs are part of H-D history. Of course knowing about them won't make you a better rider, dipstick. However it won't make you a worse rider either.

The bounus part of squeezing a little extra knowledge into your brain is it might just keep you from gettin an azz whippin' sometime. Considering that Harley folks tend to congregate in the same places and such.

Since I've ridden from 14 and am 68 now, I can say I have never seen a patched rider or group except on tv. I am from the mid west and have been to Sturgis, Laughlin, Daytona, Myrtle Beech and others multiple times along with long road trips so I'm not isolated. Maybe there is a reason that they are 1%'rs.

I don't know about 1% clubs or give a crap. I suspect that puts me into the 99% group. I see them all the time. Every day and even a few hardy ones in the winter.
