Man, I'd do the Iron Butt with the Street Glide. They should have a special designation if ya do it on a Sportster!

My buddy did one on a Ducati 916. In the real Iron Butt Rally '07 (11k in 11 days) a guy finished second or third on a Sportster. The real deal kicks off again this year from Spartanburg, SC on August 24.

I hope you have mid-controls on that Nightster. You're gonna want to stand up and shift around a little during that trip. You can't do that with forwards.

The seat has a lot less to do with completeing an "Iron Butt" than being used to the long hours on the saddle.

Can a sportster do an IRON BUTT??? of course....

I did my first one on a Badlander seat. The sheepskin works great. Got mine at Ikea. You'll be fine. Read the recommendations on the IBA site.

I had forwards. I put the passenger pegs down and shifted my feet back to them every once in a while. It did suck though. I ended up putting floorboards on later.

I wouldn't worry about it too much I did an Iron but on a hard *** Corbin on my old Night Train, no wind shield, seat cushion, or anything else special. One thing I would consider is the amount of times you are going to have to stop in the 24 hours to get gas. If you run your card too many times they will shut it off so I would carry cash for your gas. The only other thing I did special was I carried some hot dogs, water, and Gatorade in my side bag. That way I didn't have to waist time to get something to eat or drink except for some hot coffee.

Good luck! I just traded my Sporty in for a Fat Boy. I couldn't go more than 30-45 minutes without a break, but my butt is old and has a crack in it.
