That depends on the certification of the bike. If it is California certified, then you will be subject to California standards of that year, make, and model. If the bike is a Federal certified bike, then the inspection will take the standards of that bike's year, make, and model under those federal emission guidelines.

And even if the bike is new you will be required to have a smog inspection to register it in California.

pidnaul,
Thanks for the reply. My bike was 1st sold in PA and when I took it to the DMV for inspection prior to getting new plates/tags, DMV did check the sticker on the downtube which indicated the bike met federal (not CA) emissions.

Bike has a 95" kit, cams, a/c, PCIII and V&H BSL....bringing it back to stock to pass smog is too painful to imagine.

The only thing you might have to change is the A/C. Any modifications to the PCV system is not allowed unless it is CARB approved. Everything else the tech won't know the difference unless he's a D!CK.

Already did this myself (used the ready-made e-mail template posted here: http://capwiz.com/amacycle/issues/al...ertid=12937506 ). And forwarded it to every rider I know at work (Camp Pendleton, CA). And I have been mentioning this to every rider that I bump into....sadly, almost all of them have never even heard about this

Okay guys here is the latest scoop on SB435. It passed through the Transportation and Housing Committee by a vote of 7 to 3. It has been referred to the Appropriations Committee and was heard on 4/27/09. Currently, the bill is placed on the suspense file. If it clears this Committee it will be placed on the Senate floor for a final vote. It is not too late to get your letter of opposion to your Senator! If you haven't contacted your Senator yet, GET MOVING. If you have, send him/her another letter of opposition. If we don't get behind this now, we will be in serious crap within the next year.
