There's a whole other world to motorcycles than just cruising and touring. Whack the throttle on a Busa and experience time travel on two wheels. If Harley had offered the XR1200 in the US when I was looking for a new sport bike I would have bought one instead of the Busa but in the MoCo's infinite wisdom they decided that Americans didn't deserve a good sport bike.
What year did you buy your Busa? Nothing HD makes can really be compared to the Busa but Harley (well...Buell) has been making sport bikes here in the US for quite a few years. I had a 97 M2 Cyclone myself. Big fun...but nowhere near as refined as my buddy's Ducati, let alone a big 4 sportbike. The Buell 1125 is a lot more of a sportbike than the XR1200, but it doesn't say Harley on the side and it doesn't have that classic sound.

I've owned a couple of Harleys, a Buell and a couple BMW's - the HD's have been the most fun, despite not being superior on a spec sheet. Fun is what I care about!

No I have never been intimidated,by what other people think of my Harleys. What does wind the spring are those that think all Harleys are slow.I have enjoyed educating a lot of people over the years, the very reason why owning sleepers is so much fun.

OK jus found something from 1984 , was off a bit on the dates , the tariff took effect in Jan 1984 for heavyweight motorcycles and sub assemblies imported from Japan ..

At the time , only Honda and Kawasaki had assembly plants here ..
Honda was building the Goldwing in their Ohio plant since 1980. As for Kawasaki, I'm not sure what they were producing here above 700cc prior to the tariff, but their reaction was to move their 400-500cc bike production back to Japan and make the 700+ bikes in the US.

I didn't read all three pages of reply's, but I admit that some of the same emotions ronny felt went through my head when I was looking at a Victory Vision and the salesman asked if I'd consider trading my Road King for it.

I don't know, friends....but in a span of .000035 seconds I felt like a dad who's only daughter brought home a meth-head for dinner...just wasn't a good feeling at all.
