Default 500 mile road trip. My butt is sore!! solutions?

ok. i have returned from my road trip around florida. 200 miles on the first 2 days, 100 on the last.

ugh. i am tired. ever notice that everything takes twice as long on a bike?

anyway. i am looking for solutions to sore butt syndrome.

the symptoms are that after an hour or 2, my a$$ is numb. a 10 min stop resolves the problem and i am good to go for another hour or 2 before my butt starts feeling like its on fire.

i am guessing its because i am fat and the pressure cuts off circulation.

some have said throw a sheepskin on. thoughts on this?

maybe its just me getting old.

Try a different seat, and increase you seat time. Rode from the west side of MI thru Canada into Finger Lakes area of New york and back in four days. Weather was highs in the 50's and rain for three of the four days. Oh yea stock seat on a Lowrider, no problems with this old body, except the wife had to talk a little louder to me for a few hours. I also like the slowed down pace, mostly rode secondary highways.

Yep, 500 miles is a lot of miles before lunchtime but not for three days. You just need to ride more and get your rear end into riding shape.
On long days of 600+ miles, I sometimes wear LD comfort shorts or my bicycle shorts under my gear.

OR...

Try one of the Air Hawk seat pads. They have them to fit the rider's saddle as well as the passenger pillion. Wife loves the one I purchased for the pillion. I intend to get me a saddle pad Air Hawk before I take The Biggie come June. The Air Hawk has inflatable air pads that you can adjust to your liking... even while riding.

FWIW: It is a good idea to get off the bike every 100-150 miles or two hours, whichever comes first. You NEED to stretch, and move around a bit, which is good for the circulation in your legs. (Don't want a blood clot, do you?)

Before you spend big money on a new seat, try the sheepskin. I do not speak from personal experience on my bike on this but just from other's opinions. I did use a sheepskin in an old Corvette and it made a world of difference. Also if your butt itches try some Under Armour shorts are something similar. As a last resort, since it is the most difficult, lose some weight. As to age, I'm pretty sure that you are younger than me and I have no problem riding 10-12 hours a day on trips. I stop about every 175 miles for fuel or more often if the scenery is interesting. I ride on a Corbin seat.
