Buying a used HD Sportster 883 - Please Advice
Hi All
I am planning to buy a used HD Sportster 883 from a HD dealer.
I am a first time HD buyer. (It has been a dream though for as long as I can remember).
What are the important things I should look for to make sure I get a good bike?
Please guide.
Thanks

First off, what year and for how much?
I can tell you right now, if they're asking more than $6k you're not getting a good deal, unless it's an '08 with 500 miles. Look on craigslist or ebay motors, lots of good used bikes for around 5 or 6k, even 1200's.

Harley just ended their Sportster trade in event (gave MSRP for 07,08,09 Sportster). Lots of dealers give more for Sportster on trade in, then they are worth. So becareful you didn't get an overpriced trade in.
I traded my 07 Sportster 1200 Low and got $9600 for trade in.
The dealer did not roll the extra trade in to the new bike.
So how in the world he is going to come out of it, is beyond me.
But that said...

I would recommend a local purchase if available from an individual. This can save $$$. I did this with the last 4 bikes (not all HD's) I have bought and have saved big.

STOP, run from the dealership. You can buy a slightly used 883 with low miles for about 4000.00 or even less from a individual purchase. Go on craiglist and ebay and look for one close to you, these bike are readialy available. I would look for model year from 2002 to present.

A little high, but we need to know the miles, and what has been done to it. Got a pick or a link?
PS - Nothing wrong with an 883. Only guys that are not secure in their manhood can't own one.
