Your Longest Ride
This should be interesting...
What's your longest ride? I've done a lot of 4 hr day trips, did a day trip to Houston 3 weeks ago...there and back on a Saturday with an 6 hour layover. Took me 12 hours to ride to Nebraska once. And 12 hours back. Rode from Dallas to Daytona and back in 2000. That was 2400 miles with a 5 day layover to enjoy bike week. Even tried to set my own land speed record in 2001 and rode Daytona to Dallas in 17 hrs straight. But my longest so far is Dallas to Myrtle Beach and back with a few scenic routes and a jaunt down The Tail of the Dragon along the way home...3000 miles in 7 days. That one took some pre trip prep. We burned a tank of gas every Sat & Sun for two months beforehand to get our legs, butts and backs ready. And started out on fresh lube and tires. It paid off.

So far my longest ride was 1,092 miles total round trip in two days (546 miles each way).
I have a good friend that just completed a 1500 mile iron butt ride in 24 hours weekend before last.
I'm sure my little ride is nothing compared to many here on the board.

A 546 mile day is a good day's ride. That's a long day for sure. Hope you had a good seat on the bike! I met a guy at the International BMW rally back in the 90's ( when I was riding my old BMW a lot ) who had ridden from Nova Scotia to Fredericksburg Texas, where the rally was being held. Can't recall the milage but he didn't win the long distance rider reward that year...some guy from Chile won it for riding all the way from Santiago to Texas!

My longest ride is 767 miles in one day. Left at 7:00 in the morning , rode through rain at 53 degrees , crosswind of 25-30 gust till noon. At noon the sun came out and it got to 91 degrees and steamy. Pulled into the house sometime around midnight. Made several stops for gas and a few good meals along the way. Road over 3500 miles total in a seven day period.

Are we talking a one day ride??
I've done a lot of 800-1100 mile days, makes for a long day but it gets you where you want to go fast. Minneapolis to Nashville is a long boring ride to do in one day. Next time I do one I should do the Iron Butt paperwork just for the stuff you get.

My longest trip has been 5,300 miles in 12 days. I've done lots of 12 to 16 hour days. If you want to maximize time at your destination, sometimes you just have to put it in the wind. If I have time I like to take backroads as much as possible. If time is an issue, I have no problems with running 85 mph+ on the interstate for hours on end.

A couple years ago we did a 650mile ride in one day- to the BH with some extra rides. The cross winds and rain in SD made it worse than any 800+ mile ride I have done.

2400 miles from Colorado Springs to San Diego on my old 2005 883XLC 2 up with my wife. Almost two weeks for sight seeing, back roads and staying with friends and family and lay overs along the way.
Absolutly the best trip of my life by far.
Going to Arkansas this year, and maybe up to Kentucky from there in a big loop.
PS- 1 day about 550 miles. I never do too much as my wife and I always travel together.
