Exclamation Ever Thought Of Painting This?

I want to do the "Blackout" look to my Streetbob. I have the Vance & Hines chrome Shortshots on there right now and they are only about 2 months old so I hate to sell and buy new.
Anyone ever just sanded down and roughed up the chrome heatshields and painted them black?
Would this work?
What paint to use?

Thanks!!

This happens all the time over on the dyna section!!! Most people use bbq grill paint OR HEADER PAINT... But you could also have the heat shields powder coated... I actually almost bought the chrome shortshots and had the shields coated... Would have save 20-30 bucks... But would have had more down time... But then they were finally in stock so i just got the black ones

Chrome is very hard to paint as it's very hard to scuff up enough. I believe the best way to do it is to etch the chrome with a chemical first. Might want to check with some of your local platers. They'll be able to tell you exactly what to do.

Personally, I think powdercoating would be better than painting. However, if it were me, I'd look into having them "black-chromed" as it would be far tougher and last longer.

Sand blast before paint.

I like the black chrome also.

I painted my chrome Pro Pipe with House of Kolor Hi-Temp Satin Black. Sandblasted the chrome off first. The finish was smooth and lasted for several years until I recently changed pipes.
