I watch every drop I pump in mine...at slow speed....and always have. If you don't maintain full control of the fuel flow, you are asking for trouble.
Bingo.

All I ever look at when putting gas in the bike is the nozzle and fuel flow. When I decide it's full, I stop. Even if the counter is at $X.96, it stays that way.

I would never use the leverlock on filling a bike .

I did have a screwed up leverlock engage and stick will filling just a couple yrs back,

I quickly shut off the pump.

Now when I fill the bike I always slip a finger on the lock to prevent any engagements.

Was filling up last fall, holding the nozzel tip just below the tank neck, face close to gas hole looking in when a spider came crawling up from the front of the tank. I tried to blow it off and when I did the nozzel came up a little. Sprayed gas in my face, all over the seat, and down onto the hot exhaust. Thought I was a gonner there for a split second. I was careful before and now I'm extra careful.

I've not had a massive overfill yet, but I've had the vapor return drizzle gas on my tank and other annoying things, so now I keep an eye going between the tank and the pump and I put in about what I think it needs before slowing the flow and topping the tank off.

The vapor returns are a PITA. That's all we have close to me. It's great when I get out where they have regular pump handles.
