Default Kuryakyn Breather Bolts

Hi. I have a Kuryakyn Hypercharger with their own breather adapter and bolts. The bolts cannot be removed with a normal screwdriver (flat blade or phillips). Does anyone know the appropriate tool to use to get these off? I want to use different bolts and setup.

For a view of the bolts themselves, click this link: http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=harley&ci=2335

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Happy motorin!

It's hard to tell by looking at the pictures. It looks like there is red locktite on the bolts, you might have to use some heat to get them to break lose. From the picture, it looks like the right size flat or phillips head bit should work. If you don't have one get a bit adapter for a ratchet. I can't tell from the picture, but a regular socket might fit.( Is it a 12 point bolt?)

When we installed the Hypercharger on my son's Sportster, we used a wood chisel but we used the side of it. Probably not in anyone's installation manual but it's what we had that fit and it worked.

Hey Blademan. Thanks for the response. I figured there was locktite on it (before I even saw the picture of the bolts), but I'm afraid to use heat so close to the carb. I would love to crack it with a screwdriver, but I would need like a 3/4 blade width and even my largest drivers didn't have that width. I will just look in Sears or something for the largest screwdriver they have (and even then, gonna be hard to get enough torque to crack it unless it was offset). The bolt does not have an outside hex, it's completely round and smooth so I can't even use a socket on it otherwise this would have been a breeze.

Thanks for the suggestion and happy motorin!

Regards,

HogCrazyDude

Lol, I tried the side of a wood chisel too, but I think there is locktight on it cause I still couldn't crack it and I was starting to chew up the bolt so I stopped.

I just need to get a real wide blade screwdriver and use a good amount of elbow grease and some penetrating oil...

Thanks for the response and happy motorin!

I had something about the same size on my boat. I ground the end of a file and used vice-grips to turn it. The file is strong enough, just grind it to fit. It worked pretty well.

Sears has a phillips driver that will work, look for the biggest one.

You might try tapping lightly on the head of the bolt to try and dislodge the locktight slightly. You know like when a bolt is rusted in place. Not heavy blows but a few repititions of light tapping. Can you get ahold of the bolt head with vise grips? Just a thought.
