Eating out everyday, staying in a hotels on A1A thinking this town would be a great place to live, it's is not. What you said is exactly what I heard a city member say about 5 months ago. "If people who live/come here don't like the way we do things, screw'em! There's millions of nieve one timers to take their place". One timer's also applies to residents. It's like their proud of the constant abuse year after year and they could care less about the consequences. Your right, I can't figure out why these mindless, spineless sheep don't all standing up to the city and the corrupt way they "do business" year after year. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about. There is even a serious hatred between the city and and the Volusia county officals. They "never" see eye to eye. It's a fact. Daytona cops and sheriffs deputies are even at each others throats, regularly. The city of Daytona Beach wants nothing more than to make this a condominium 'only' town. They admit it. Their trying to drive out what's left of the boardwalk area and main street. They want it gone for good. They are succeeding as time goes on. As I've stated, the bottom line is this town ain't s--- anymore, if it ever was. As soon as I can find a buyer for my home, I'm out of here and Florida altogether.
Notice what has taken over in almost all city council and planning organizations. DEVELOPERS! Builders and others with "building only" interests. The only thing they can do in most of these areas to keep their buddies in business is to tear down a perfectly good infrastructure to rebuild at the public's expense.

Building and development is not bad in its own right, but when it infiltrates a perfectly good, self sustaining area, it is evil!

It's better for anyone thinking of coming here to plan their own trip somewhere beautiful and (different) out of Florida and make a week or 2 long trip of it, as we do. I have organized, volunteered and dedicated my time money and years of effort toward bike events here in Daytona. I'm done with Daytona Beach. Daytona Beach or Florida for that matter is not worth it anymore, "that's a fact"; like it or not. An opinion shared by hundreds of people and growing after each season. I've read article after article in biker magazines stating the way bikers and vendors are treated like s--- by the city of Daytona Beach. Oh and, this ain't no motorcycle MECCA. Your dreaming. Just try to get your Harley serviced locally and you'll find out. Better yet... don't. The city should be more concerned about the numerious murders over 20" rims that happen during 'every' BCR than a biker who has his glasses on his head while stopped at a curb. Why do you think all the event organizers are not coming back? It just not worth it anymore. This is why even Bruce Rossmeyer moved up to route 1 in Ormond Beach, too much B/S. Maybe you like boozing and biking as a social life for Bikeweek/Biketoberfest but most I know, do not. They gouge the people more and more every year, that is also a fact. They don't care that it's affecting people from returning. As RDM stated is exactly on the money. They are trying to slowly drive out the bikers and the vendors, just like they did in Myrtle Beach, S.C.. To hell with this town, nobody left here cares anyway, that is just the way it is. I'm sorry if this post isn't a positive experience of Daytona Beach but I did not make it this way, they did. Reader's of this post.... don't let nobody tell you different, this is how it is here!
I'm sorry but I just have to chuckle about the Daytona bikeweek "experience" of someone who didn't even know anything about Leesburg Bikefest a year ago. What is it like 70 miles from Daytona to Leesburg?

I've done Daytona, Myrtle Beach, Laconia, and Sturgis. And if you're into the riding aspect of the Rally, Sturgis is by far and away the best. Although Laconia provided some great riding when it wasn't raining. The commercialism is everywhere, and your point is excellent regarding Daytona. Very little riding anymore due to traffic, and everywhere you go, someones got their hand out for more $$. Even the local LEO's writing endless tickets to bring in the revenue... Things just ain't like they once were. But in many cases that can be good. Come on up to Sturgis. Great riding everywhere, and the adjacent towns, cities, and people are really appreciative for the most part of the revenue that is generated from the bikers. Tons of cools bikes too!

I went to Bike Week this year mainly becasue I didn't know how not to.

Only stayed one full day, I got in Tuesday afternoon, set camp and pulled out Friday morning. Mainly what I did was visit with old friends and let them know I was still kicking. Cheapest Bike Week I can remember in a long time as well, $135 including gasoline!!

Now Sturgis is the real party. Everyone needs to RIDE there at least once, and CAMP in the mud and the blood and the beer.

I don't want to go to any place that targets me because I'm riding my bike. It's pretty oxymoronic to have a Bike Week and then heavily hit all the bikers for traffic violations. Loud exhaust? Yup... High handlebars? Yup... etc etc

That's like Golden Corral charging you money if youre under dressed during a particular week.

I and so many other riders/friends, all share the view that these events have become "stale" and "played out". This view grows as the years go on. Every year it seems to us that it's the same old vendors selling their wears with the same old bike dealers (like Bruce Rossmeyer's), pushing to sell you 'any' worthless crap they can. It's like one big live commercial. There's very little difference as the years go on. Everybody's out to 'over charge' you for everything. All most people want to do is meet up and do a bit of riding each day and make new friends, while not having to pay out for every single little thing. The town even jacks up the gas prices substantially about a week before each event. When I was a kid back in the late 60's, this is not what I was told riding was really all about. Biker's from that era tell me that it is all about the buck now and has been for about the last 20 years, not about comradery and having a good time just sitting around a camp fire and just getting together. Could it be the difference in the generations? I think it is. I have not yet attended the Sturgis event but hope it is not at all like it is here in Daytona Beach.

Stale, I cant imagine that !! I have not been for like 14 years but let me see. Is there still racing going on there, I know they run like two nights at the municipal stadium, a couple nights at barberville, and then there is racing all week at the speedway, I went 3 years in a row back in the early 90's and never once went anywhere other than a race track. No need to walk down a street and look at people drinking the same beer as I, or trying to sell me crap I can buy anywhere. Go check out the races and have a good time. That will spice it up for you !!

Another Koolaid drinker. Chuckle all you want. The jokes on you. Leesburg and Daytona are apples and oranges but you should already know that, right?. I always knew about Leesburg, I simply chose not to 'attended' it. Like I said, if you want to be a sheep, be my guest. "Wise up".... Nuff said.

As slime dog said, no matter how much truth and common sense you make, there are always going to be mindless, spinless a--holes like this guy that are still going to be as dumb as styrofoam. Don't waste your breath dispatch, you got his number.
