Default Any Maryland Riders running Vertical side-mount plates?

I went to the MVA today, paid my 20 bucks and got the smaller 4-1/2 x 7 plate. As a result I am now seriously considering the vertical sidemount license plate.

It is my understanding that this may not legal in the Socialist Republic of Maryland.

Couple of questions...

1: Is it indeed unlawful to run a sidemount plate in Maryland?

2: Has anyone running a sidemount been ticketed, cited or warned by the police in any way.

Thanks in advance.

Tom

I just renewed by mail this week. There was no provision on the form for the updated size plate. I have seen plenty of side mounts at every gathering have yet to see any law enforecemnt sweeps.

As a matter a fact, I believe I do have one. Legal? Nope! Haven't been bothered about, but then I try not to be an obvious target.

Point being, that plate alone usually doesn't cause trouble. I know I'm rather visible, but I don't attract the law by being reckless or stupid. Iv'e had plenty of LEO's follow me and look at my ride at events. Never had 1 single issue, so far!

If you drop by the Union, say Hey!

I didn't bring my tag and I was not asked for it. I just needed to fill out the request form and provide all the info from my registration.

Good luck,

Tom
