Sort of 'late' in the game, BUT given your post, and your buddies wrenching, and the lengths you both are going to, may I suggest going to Grainger or likewise outfit, and purchasing a low end infra-red thermometer.
I use them extensively in the HVAC field, and used them when I was a maintenance tech in different applications, foundry, hydraulic systems, steam plants, etc. Point, pull the trigger, get a digital reading.
You can use it to check cyl. head temp, exhaust pipe temp, ALL sorts of NEAT chit.
HE WHO DIES WITH THE MOST TOYS,......................Still dies.
DEMOCRACY = 2 Wolves and a Sheep, voting on what to have for lunch.
LIBERTY = A well armed Sheep, contesting the vote.

I must be reading your mind because my friend has an Infra Red Thermometer and we plan on using it when we do a test drive. Hopefully we can do this on Sunday.
Stay tuned!

I posted this question on the Oil Thread-----what is the problem with oil temps of 300 deg, when most oils do not "flash" until the mid 400 deg range?
I have searched the Nascar Forums and hi oil temp is not a problem (or so it seems) with the cars that run 300 and over.

$500 sounds a bit pricey to me. My question is, how much cooler do any of these oil coolers really get the oil. I mean if your moving the oil is getting cool even without any oil coolers. Now if they worked when you were at a stand still. Say at a stop light, or in traffic. Then I would see no issue spending 5bones. I had thought about going with a oil cooler and a bigger oil tank. But after pricing it all out. Heck I can rebuild the motor for that kinda money.

During all of your upgrades, did you change injectors at all? I remember on my 2006 Street Glide there was an issue with the touring models in which they used 8* injectors instead of the current 25* injectors. My bike was overheating from day one until a bulletin came out and they changed from the 8* to the 25*. Solved my overheats.
I think they stopped using the 8* injectors from the factory some time in mid 2006. You might want to look into that. Check your injector part number if they are still stock.
