Default Chrome vs. Chrome Plating

Is there a difference? I'm familiar with the chroming process, but I keep seeing some stuff refered to as "Chrome" and some stuff refered to as "Chrome Plated". Interestingly, the stuff refered to as "Chrome Plated" seems to almost always be cheaper. What up with that?

I do believe you are correct, I can't see people casting things out of chrome. I could be wrong though, it's happened once or twice before

did a quick google:
Chrome plating, often referred to simply as chrome, is a technique of electroplating a thin layer of chromium onto a metal object. The chromed layer can be decorative, provide corrosion resistance, ease cleaning procedures, or increase surface hardness

Chrome plating/chrome are the same thing.
Why does some last and look good, and some look like chit in 2 yrs?

GOOD chrome plating is a 3 or 4 step process.
After acid dipping, copper plating. Then nickel plating, then one or two or three layers of chrome. Buffed out, between layers.
That is the 'chrome' we have been used to for eons. (2 and 3 layers, is called "Show Chrome". The *****s have figured it is way easier to just chrome it. NO doubt it is "less expensive" to produce and PURCHASE, BUT it ain't gonna last. And MANY on here, KNOW that, NOW!!!!!!

IT was chit when they thought about it. IT was chit when they did it,. IT was chit when you bought it. And it will be chit when it is in the landfill, WAY before it's life SHOULD have been over with.

The downside along with that, is the GOOD platers have 2 choices. Do it the same CHEAP way, or go outta biz, because ppl will ONLY buy the cheap chit to save a buck. BUT you'll be replacing it in a couple of years.

Is there REALLY a diff? I don't know, you tell me. The girder on my chop is from 1972, and STILL has the 'original' chrome on it, without one flake, peel, or rust spot.
The "AMERICANS" rest their case, Your Honor.

Is that like buying a chromebattery cover, or sissy bar? If so, I get my required daily allowance. Chrome is good.
