Coldest Temperature You'll Ride In
#11
Took off this morning for a short ride and really didn't know what temperature it was. After I got home, about 3 hours later, I was probably the coldest I've been so far. Wife laughed at me when I told her, then she told me it was about 39 degrees when I left.
Think I'll stick to 50 degree's and above from now on.

I left my house on Thanksgiving last year for my moms it was 24 that morning.
The first 30 t0 40 miles was not to bad. (It was a 300 mile ride).
At the 150 mile marker I was cold to the bone.
A quick gas up with some hot coffee and I was good to finish the ride.
I don't think I will be doing that temp again.

If the roads haven't been hit by rain I'll ride at 10F. Over the coarse of a winter I'll ride in the teens regularly. In 2007 about 250 of us did the Great Teddy Bear Run at 24F. I guess you either ride in it or stay in over the winter.

Zero interest in enduring "pain". Riding in the cold defeats the purpose of the bike as a sanity preserving device. Fifty and sunny is the low end.
Of course I have been on two lane backroads in NC, at night, in driving rain with multiple tornadoes but I didn't plan for it to come out that way.

When I left home this morning it was dark and 36 F. I rode for about 1/2 hour to my destination. Not much of a problem - long johns & jeans, liner in the coat, and lined gloves. At the end my fingers were getting chilly but that was it.
