Default Have you ever run out of time journeying and couldn't make your destination?

Title says it all, but I'll go ahead and repeat it. Have you ever spent so much time enjoying your journey that you ran out of time and had to head back home before getting to your destination? I'm not talking about breaking down and being stuck. I mean you actually spent so much time stopping to socialize and smell the flowers that you ran out of time?

Reason I ask is that I hope to go to Sturgis this year. The first problem is I'll have to do 400-500 mile days just to get one full day at the rally. The second problem is it's going to be through some of the most beautiful terrain on the planet and, honestly, I don't want to ignore it just so I can end the day 500 miles down the road.

Sort of... and it was on the way to Sturgis a few years ago.

We rode from Oregon and figured 3 days of riding, getting there on the 3rd day. But going thru Yellowstone was so nice that we decided to say an extra day and go back thru it again. So we actually made it to Sturgis on the 4th day. But we didn't really miss our destination, just delayed it a day getting there.

This has happened to me on a couple group trips, but never when I travel solo.

I stopped try'n to make destinations a must do as sh*t seem to happen more often as i get older. More just ride for the ride. or tow to the event and ride when there.

Never leave a good time to find a good time.

The "place" will be there for another day.

Yep, more than once, especially traveling up and down the Oregon/Washington coast. There are just too many beautiful last minute side trips and too many places to stop and get a great snack such as fresh crab...

The last time I went up that way, I had to cut over and come back down I-5 to keep from being late getting home.

Haven't you heard: "It's the ride, not the destination"?

It is about the ride, not the destination. If it is about the destination because of necessity you won't deviate. Just remember to cancel any reservations you may have if you decide to linger and then cut the tripo short.

I say it's not about the destination but the ride getting there! We're planning on going to Laughlin, but don't really care if we don't make it and just ride!
