Default Chrome Cleaner on Aluminum

So back when i first got my bike being new and all, I used chrome cleaner on my Aluminum rocker covers, Not knowing at the time that it was going to totally ruined the polish. So that in a nut shell is my problem, both my rocker covers are milky white and do not have a finish at all anymore. Im doing a trade in at the dealer so i wanted to try a quick fix. Possibly a high speed buffer with some kind of polish ointment?? If anyone has had this problem ideas and thoughts are much appreciated!!

Don't ya hate it when that happens.
did ya try a little gas on a rag in a small spot to see if that would take it off?

wet sanding with a fairly course grit sandpaper then gradually step up to finer grits ending around 1800 - 2000 then polish with ALUMINUM polish. Should be shining like chrome. There are some other threads on the forum about similar issues on triple trees, forks etc.

Well gas doesn't do anything, the chrome cleaner pretty much stripped the coating on the aluminum and made it milky white and its stained in the metal, nothing will get it out. I think like matt said it's gotta be wet sanded, and re-polished i'll have to give it a try when i get some time like this weekend. Anybody else's opinions are welcome!
Thanks guys and until then,

He's right... an aluminum polish like Mothers will fix the problem.

So perhaps the sanding might not even be needed? Maybe just a high speed buffer and aluminum polish (mothers)?

As far as the dealer dealing with it, would they dock the price off the MSRP for that? I mean it is noticeable and it covers mostly all of the rocker covers
