Thats crazy. Poor fellow. If circumstances should ever arise to where one has to explain how he crashed, getting knocked off by a turkey is not an experience you want to bring to the table.

A guy here in Connecticut got killed by a wild turkey about ten years back. He had just gotten his first bike too. Knew his dad. Happened right near where I live. He actually swerved into oncoming traffic after the turkey ran into the bike. Those things are huge.

I had a turkey hit the front window of my Avalanche, caving it in. Can't imagine hitting a turkey on the bike.

I've almost hit a turkey, a buzzard, a hawk and I did hit a dove....

I was riding outside Helen, GA and saw a Turkey take off from my left over the road. He was a few feet overhead and was going to clear me easily when all of a sudden, he dropped about 4 feet. Gangly bird....

Another time I came over a hill and on the other side was a hawk and a buzzard eating on some type of carcus. The hawk just sat there, didn't move. The buzzard took off in the direction I was going and they don't have the greatest acceleration. I almost tapped his tail feathers.

The dove flew right into my left hand....

I see those careless critter all the time, and everytime I do I wonder what would happen if they decided to take flight right into me.... Geez, I hate hearing about this. But I'm much more cautious around them now, if that's possible....

Thanks for all the responses to this post. I originally took interest in the story and posted it because we have a huge turkey population in the area where we live. I hit a dog once (that didn't turn out too well...), but I never even think of the turkeys we have here. Reading this story has made me a bit more cautious!

Just like Skitzer said, not long till we can get even with them birds. My son-in-law sent me a email where a bud hit a grizzly bear with his bike on Lolo Pass near Lolo,MT. and Kooskla,ID. It said he had to spend 3 days in the hospital and the bear and hog was dead. To the OP,sorry not trying to steal your post, just wanted to let everyone know it's more than just the birds that needs to be dodged.
