Cool. We do some work for the aerospace industry ourselves. Electronic manufacturing though.

Where I work:

Wish I had the vacation days to get some R&R. Not too worried though because we're closing the last two weeks in December so I'll have plenty of R&R...just won't have any money.

Are you an engineer? Looks like a think tank.

No but we have plenty of them. I'm a training specialist. We're actually a contract manufacturer.

For me, it's always BEEN Harley. From the moment I saw the Softail Custom in 1984, it never was "if", only "when", and now, with my order for a 2005 Night Train, in 4 (hopefully SHORT!) months, the "when" becomes "NOW!" The Japanese bikes just never struck a chord with me, but with the Harley there was just "something" that connected with me.

What led to me finally pulling the trigger was me renting a Dyna Wide Glide this past August for a long weekend and having it RAIN 3 of the 4 days! When I returned the bike to the dealer, the guy noted that I hadn't put a lot of KMs on her, and I told him it was due to the rain. So he says "Why don't you just buy one? Then the weather doesn't matter (in that I wouldn't have to return the bike)?", and I said I couldn't afford it. While I was on my way home, though, I started to crunch the numbers, and figured out that HELL YEAH, I CAN AFFORD IT!!! [sm=icon_cheers.gif] So I went back later that week, and ordered the Night Train.

Now, I had actually been set on a Softail Custom for 20 odd years, but they were discontinued, so I had to choose a suitable replacement model. I knew I wanted a Softail SOMETHING, but not a loaded model like a Heritage Classic... the Standard was TOO plain Jane for me.... when the sales guy pointed out the Train, my first reaction was "Nah, not enough chrome!" For me, it had always been Harley = Lots o CHROME! I was thinking of the Springer... but as time went on, the Train was appealing to me more and more... until it hit me: The Night Train was ME all the way! I LOVE how mean it looks, and the fact that it is different from most other Harleys that are chromed to the max! By the time I put the deposit down, I was drooling over the Train!
She'll stay stock with the exception of pipes/carb jet kit/K&N filter. Down the road I may change the seat depending on how comfortable the Badlander is on long trips.

So that, for me, is "Why Harley?"

Here's a pic of me with the Wide Glide last year (I also rented in 2003):

Great pic Clammy. Nice AXE! Or should I say axes. Let me guess, Pantera fan? [sm=icon_rock.gif]

What brought me over to H.D. was just finding a ride that I loved to look at and ride. We all progress into different bikes over the years and find styles and models we love. I think most riders find that H.D. is the pinnacle of cruiser bikes and we all seem to strive to be able to have one some day. I often wondered what the hype was all about, but once you've got one, you seem to fall in love with the dam things and then you know. History, heritage, and resale are good for group discussions and books. It about the ride, and most just love to ride um.

Bclem,

Aerospace industry eh, what a rollercoaster ride they are. High suicide rates! Best move I ever made was getting out of them. Hopefully you enjoy your work... I was in aviation for 12 years and walked away, and have'nt regret it either.

I guess I have always had a love for Harley's, never really liked metric bikes at all?
I even owned a honda back in the seventies for a short period of time while I was building my first Harley(a hodge podge of parts and a really worn out early 60's PanHead), I never felt comfortable riding the honda from the day I got it to the day I got rid of it!
Over the years I have rode several types of metric bikesand they all have felt uncomfortable to me!

I sticking with Harley's.

I'm at the Anti-Submarine base in Point Loma.
It was a chilly 44 degrees on the way to work today. So much for sunny Southern California!
Still ridin'!

Ride on...............
