A friend of mine was in a wreck wearing one of those things and is still in a coma. The docs said if he was wearing a helmet with the proper cushioning, he probably wouldn't be in the condition he's in now. He crashed on Good Friday, now they are getting ready to send him to long term care until he wakes up---jack

I have the non-DOT helmet from Advance Carbon Fiber, and it's great. According to them, the only part of the DOT test that it doesn't pass is the puncture test. There isn't as much padding as a regular DOT helmet, but it still offers better protection then nothing at all.
