Try riding with a HOG chapter. For the most part they make an effort to teach everyone how to ride in a group. Not all of them are good at it.

Stay away from big rides with hundreds of bikes until you are comfortable with group riding.

Like most of us you will find a group of people you are comfortable with and do most of your riding with them. Ten years ago we rode with about with about 8 couples now it is down to about 4 couples. We all know what each one of us is going to do before they do it.

Takes time to get comfortable in a group I am 61 so at 50 you should not have any problem.
