Default Changing air in tires

Anybody thinking about changing from air to nitrogen in their tires? They use it in drag bikes and NASCAR, so there must be an improvement in mpg and tire wear. Belle Tire charges $4.00 per tire to change it over. Nothing but letting out the air and refilling it with nitrogen. The news stated that a local store (forgot the name) was selling nitrogen too. At $3.00 plus and soon to be $4.00 a gallon for gas, anything would be an improvement.
Would it be worth it to change over? What are your thoughts?

I don't think it's worth the trouble.

better tire wear and mpg from using nitrogen? hmmm...don't see how but maybe the pressure with nitrogen fluctuates less with the change in temperature than regular air. If that's the case I don't think I get my tires hot enough to make a difference.

You gotta be kidding .......save you money and buy some bling! For that matter fill your tires with heluim, that will make your bike lighter, and should help you save .0000000000000000000000000000000000000001% at the pump.

The air you breath is "about" 80% nitrogen. If they pull a vacuum in your tire prior to putting the nitrogen in the tire then you would have 100%, however thats not the way it's done. It's a bunch of hype, don't fall for it.

Are you sure that is why they are doing it? I thought it was to keep the pressure from varying in the heat. 1/2 psi makes a difference on a drag tire, I don't think I would notice it on mpg.

Be careful when changing the compression if you're using the stock water pump. Builds too much pressure and you start blowing muffler bearings and flux capacitors.
