Chrome scratches... I screwed up...

I also believe this.
My experience was a bit different than yours.....I used a clean soft cotton rag and some Mothers Chrome Polish on mine. Hazed right up with some real fine scratches.
I know how to polish chrome and I've been using Mothers for years. It wasn't me and it wasn't the Mothers.
And this effected only one muffler. I tried it on the bottom side of my other muffler and no problem.
No more Rush for me...although I know others think the chrome finish is fine, I'm sure mine were not.
Got some Khrome Werks. Great finish and a better sound!!!
And just to let you know, I tried a couple different things to get the scratches out. Jewelers rouge (white) and #0000 steel wool. Neither did the job.
Good luck....if you find a way to remove those scratches you could market it and become a millionare!!!! Plenty of folks with scratched chrome out here.

About the Rush chrome - I also rubbed a bit on the factory heat shield and it didn't scuff like the Rush. That led me to my opinion on Rush's chrome plating.
