Default Harley a tax deduction....

Saw an advertisement at a local H-D dealership that the new stimulus bill has a provision in Section I008, Page 203, where you can claim a tax deduction on your purchase of a new Harley.

It states that sales tax will still be charged, but, you can claim that as a deduction. "Consult your tax professional for further details".

Don't know if this is true, haven't seen the bill. But thought I'd pass it on.

Disclaimer: This post is a public service announcement. It does not reflect, nor should it entice a debate in reference to said controversial bill.

It's true. Sales tax on cars, trucks and motorcycles purchased in 2009 will be allowed as a deduction.

Figures, I bought my 09 Ultra in November!

FYI--I just copied and pasted the following from the IRS website.

Sales Tax Deduction for Vehicle Purchases

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provides a deduction for state and local sales and excise taxes paid on the purchase of new cars, light trucks, motor homes and motorcycles through 2009. The deduction is available regardless of whether a taxpayer itemizes deductions on Schedule A. Purchases before Feb. 17, 2009, are not eligible for this special deduction.
The deduction is limited to the tax on up to $49,500 of the purchase price of an eligible motor vehicle. The deduction is phased out for joint filers with modified adjusted gross income between $250,000 and $260,000 and other taxpayers with modified AGI between $125,000 and $135,000.

I would say that if you were able to put everything on your sales contract at time of delivery it should count. When HD accesories are installed before delivery it is part of your two year warranty.

Your dealer would probably know for sure.

When I try to view the other link it says I do not have permission. Can someone tell me how do I claim this? I purchased a 2009 Dyna FXDC in March 09 and I use hoome tax software.

Thanks in advance...I hope this does not only apply to sales tax because NH doe sont have sales tax.
