Luggage Rack Carry Capacity

Luggage Rack Carry Capacity
Just bought a luggage rack for our Heritage. Specs say maximum weight it can carry is 10lbs. When I see bikes on the road traveling with their luggage, it looks like a lot more than 10lbs on board. Any problem carrying a fully loaded T-Bag with Roll Bag?

The 10 pound limit is for their liability needs. I've had over 50 on mine. With the rack installed press down with both your hands. You will notice that you can almost lift off your feet and the rack holds.

For the fun of it - weigh what you got. You might be surprised how much 10lbs. is. Do not forget other parts of weight equation - will change CG (center of gravity) etc. Think safety when you are doing it. The 10lb limit is as much about "safely" carrying something as it is about capacity.

I didn't trust the quick detach rack on my 08 E-Glide, so I got the permanent 4 channel rack. I have had 50# on the one on my 94 Classic and never a problem. It looks like Harley redesigned the QD rack for the 09's so it's more stable than earlier models.

I've loaded the Dyna up with at least 50 # of $hit on the detachable rack and then filled both saddle bags and then bungie corded tons of $hit on top of the bags and ridden from Chicago to Sturgis riding 2-up. The bike will handle differently than when it is naked, but as long as you are aware of the tremendous load and ride accordingly, the bike can handle it! Just remember - DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY may be the result of not paying attention to all the warnings on the $hit you buy from HD. LOL
