Okay--does anyone here read their owners manual? It reminds you to enter a security code and it has a wallet size card with the instructions of how to override the alarm with your newly installed code.

Fortunately for me my bike does not have the auto security feature. I'm not sure what year group that started on but my 03 doesn't have it and my son's 07 does. I always carry my code card in my wallet just the same. Sometimes when out and about I'll turn on the security with my fob as well as locking the forks.

Prolong the battery life by not storing it in the close vicinity of the bike. I will keep communicating with the bike and use more juice.
Carrying a spare battery is a great idea. Off to the store I go.

My 03 Heritage has the stock HD alarm module and it is programmable to set automatically. I have it set to come on and it sets itself. That is so that when I walk away from the bike no one can even turn the engine over without disarming it. You can adjust sensitivity. It is in the manual.

key fob
Speaking of key fobs, something else to be aware of.....happened to me at a Memphis Harley dealer. Set alarm and walked away, returned while later and couldn't deactivate the alarm. Went inside to service and found out that the dealer is verrrry close to a cell tower and it constantly interferes with the alarms. They tell people who have manual set alarms to leave them off,,,or leave the fob with the bike on the new ones,,,otherwise pain in the butt to turn the alarm off manually! Maybe things have improved with the 08 n 09's??

Can't get to the manual from where I am at. It's at home and I am not. I remember reading it, but I am not sure if I remember it right. I don't want to tell you the wrong answer without looking it up first. Might be written instructions here if you search otherwise hopefully someone will post the answer to your question.
