Bigger Bagger tire size?
Can't seem to find the exact info I am looking for even using the search.
Going to replace tire on the back of a 08 Ultra. What is widest tire that can be fit? I will post on the touring and tire sections also. Thanks

Go to an Avon or Metzler and 1 size up. If you want a good tire that looks wider even in the same size, use an ME880 which is what I am running on my RK. I am running 18x160 in the back and 21x140 in the front.

I don't know the answer but can tell you how to find it. You need two measurements.
1) Clearance inside the swingarm - the widest part of the sidewall must clear the swingarm on each side with a safety margin for sidewall bulge (e.g., when riding 2-up and hitting a pothole).
2) Rim width - tire manufacturers have recommended rim widths for each tire width. The recommendation is to ensure bead integrity under all riding conditions likely to be encountered.
The recommended rim width for your stock MU85B16 is 3.0" - 3.5". Go from there.

You should post this in the Touring section. There's always a ton of posters active there, and I'm sure they've tried a lot of different tires.
My guess would be you can go to a 150 (MU=140mm), although you might have to trim your belt guard. Frankly, I wouldn't go much bigger than that anyway. Too big a tire and wheel just adds weight and screws up your ride and handling.

The major factor is belt clearance.

The ME 880's are treating me well right now. They seem to be wearing better than my Harley tires did and the Avons. A common rule of thumb is you can go up one tire size. road grip, wear and milage are better for me with the ME880's. Plus they look better with the low profile. Oh and one more thing, it doesn't grab the road snakes (grooves) like the Harley tires did. Must be the tread pattern.

I have been running Metzies on my other scoot for the past 10 years or so and love em. Not familiar with the Mu85 type sizes what is the next size up? If I recall the MU 85 is roughly a 140 tire adn I thought I read somewhere that a 160 would me may with a bit of shaving on the belt guard.... anyone shed some light?
