You should be able to answer that all on your own... how far do you think you need to slide down the road on bare skin to lose 1/2" of tissue?

 

When weather permits, put on a pair of shorts and tie a tow rope, about 10 feet long, to the bumper of a truck. Kneel at the end of the rope and hold on tight till the truck gets to about 20 miles an hour. This is a good way to duplicate a motorcycle accident in a residential setting and should provide enough information to answer your question.

As long as you stay upright, anything you wear is fine. Its protection against the unanticipated you should be thinking about.

I ride in shorts.

Not for long trips or extended highway riding, but around town, sure do. Take daughter to softball game in shorts. Pick up some drink or smoke in shorts. Respond to firehouse in shorts. Most anything but leather is gonna feel like shorts anyway.

Wife burned her shin once while in shorts. Hot bike was on its kickstand, motor off, and she approached it from the right to use the mirror. I spent half the night kissing that boo-boo.

 

Dude , you wanna Put Armour All on your tires and ride in Shorts ?
Sell up and buy a car - you and everyone else will be a lot Safer.
