My brother n me split the drive to daytona this yr - rented an open trailer from UHaul, half rode, half trailered. Bikes where OK even after that kinda distance. They were dirtier from riding around in daytona than from the trip down.
We need an open one that I can basically stand up against the garage wall. If I had the room I'd opt for the enclosed one though.

RE: $600 trailer from lowes....
I purchased a 6x12 from a local dealer in Marietta for $650 a couple of years ago. The trailed has a wooden floor instead of the metal mat flooring. It will haul 2 large bikes with some room to spare. I would recommend the larger wheels and tires.
This thing has also been very handy to have around the house for moving large items like decks and 1/2 pipes (skate board ramps)
for my wife and son.
Good luck with your purchase.
