What is the purpose of slamming the throttle open and shut while down shifting and sitting at stop lights....The only purpose I see or hear is another reason for cagers and non-bikers to dislike people who like bikes....damn is that annoying!

Sometimes I need to "blip" the trottle on my sporty when it's cold at an idle to keep it from stalling. But I kept the stock mufflers so it's not an issue, it's very quiet.

If the riders in question are actually downshifting while blipping the throttle, they're matching the revs to the lower gear. Just dropping a gear while in a high rpm will cause the rear to tire lock up for an instant, Not a good thing. As far as cracking the throttle at a stop, just done for affect.

Because I like to do it. Done it for more than 35 years. Lord willin' and the creek don't rise, I'll do it for another 35. Don't care who likes me or doesn't. Haven't cared for more than 50 years. Lord willin' and the creek don't rise, won't care for another 50.

Although I like Garys answer best .....blipping it is the reason, the reason I do at lights is to make sure it isnt goin to stumble when the light changes, plusssssss it sounds cool as hell when there is a car next to you "the sound bouncing off it" Besides ....."Never take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.".....................Ill prolly blip it when im in Harley heaven too!...just to annoy you! [8D]

Actually speaking I am guilty of this practice in both circumstances. However, my motorcycle is really a Honda Goldwing disguised as a Harley Low Rider and even has Yamahonda pipes on it. So. I need to crack the throttle to tell if it's still running.

I checked this link to see is there was a good reason as to why I do this. Just what I thought, because it is part of the fun!
