+1 on the Redwings. Bought a pair back in 89. On their 5th set of soles. Will get another pair when the uppers finally wear out, but I doubt that will happen any time soon. I just oil them up once a year and use Doc Baileys boot black every couple of months to keep them water proof.

I have Frye Harness boots. Comfortable for a morning ride or a 2 week trip. NEVER had issues with sore feet and comfortable from day 1.

Chippewa boots ( USA ) ones, once their broke in you'll love them.

One boot I wouldn't recommend is the HD square toe engineer boot. Least if you plan on doing any walking in them. Brutal.
There are all kinds of modern materials that are waterproof, and yet breathe. Ever hear of Gore Tex, as an example?

Something light, mesh for breathing, inside zipper, good tread, not more than 8" to 10" tall max.
Try Bates... go to Academy Sports to see the lineup.
