Default Vegas first week of March 09 - 1 or 2 days to ride

Hey,

I know there are Vegas threads from time to time, but some of them seem to be talking about longer trips. I'm gonna be there for 6 days, but 4 of those are mostly working. So I have maybe 1 or 2 days to ride. Me and a friend are talking about renting a couple bikes, if available, gonna call around in a bit.

Anyway, if we get a couple bikes for a day or two, what are some 1/2 day or full day trips we could take and be in decent weather? Forecast says Vegas area is like 66/46 for the days we might be able to ride, so I'm sure some other elevations might be warmer or cooler, depending on where we go.

I have a room booked back in Vegas, so if I don't have to overnight it somewhere else and can just make a nice loop to various destinations, that would be ideal.

Any thoughts?

My friend has some ideas of some rides he took a long time ago, but most of them involve an overnight, and I'm not sure we can swing that.

Thanks.

Although I've never riden them, I hear the Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon are good 1/2 rides.

1/2 day riding, 1/2 day gambling, works for me.

Enjoy you trip.

Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire and by all means ride over Hoover Dam esp now that they are going to close the road ove rthe damn to traffic as I have heard they are going to do. While at Hoover you will even have time to ride over into the corner of AZ.

Check out the Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings. It's about 30 miles south of Las Vegas just off I-15. Neat bar with alot of history. Make sure to ride to Red Rock Canyon, beautiful scenery.

If you have 2 days, I would he up to Southern Utah and hit Zion National Park. It is about 160 miles or 3 hours ride one way, and a beautiful ride it is. Spend the night at the lodge, or camp, then head back down to Vegas the next morning.

A good day ride is south over the dam to Kingman, AZ, pick up old Route 66 to Oatman, AZ (great twisty ride up the mountain to an old mining town with burros loose on the street). Have lunch, then west to Laughlin and back north to LV.

1/2 day trip, take the run north through Lake Mead rec area, stop at Callville Bay marina, continue north to Valley of Fire, then south on I15 back to LV.

1/2 day trip, go west on Charleston Ave to Red Rock, run the scenic loop, then continue to Hwy 160 and take it West to Mountain Springs Saloon and then return.

1 day trip, run to Furnace Creek in Death Valley, run south down to Badwater (lowest point in North America), then back to Furnace Creek and on to Dante's view (1 mi above Badwater, nice twisty run up and down) and then back to LV. Can hit Mountain Springs Saloon on the way back, too.

I agree to a couple of you guys

1 day Death Valley

1/2 day Red Rock

1/2 day Valley of fire

We´re in Vegas March 6th - 13th and will take a ride crossing Hoover Dam, see the Grand Canyon Skywalk on West Rim and then head on to Kingman to enter a piece of Route 66 - maybe we will make it to Seligman before we go back to Vegas but this depends on how long we spend at the Skywalk.
