For what it's worth. I have purchased 2 bikes from Shelton's. They have a large inventory, since they own 3 shops, Durham, Smithfield, and Goldsboro. On my Fat Boy I just bought, they treated me really well, even went as far as to cap the labor costs for the work I had done on it. I had it lowered, new handle bars, backrest, and windshield.

 

In this economy - DON'T Pay over MSRP and make them eat at least the Setup/Prep. I would also hold out for the first service being free and no shipping charges.

Dealers will negotiate if your serious, last 3 bikes I purchased this way. Don't ignore 08' leftovers - I'm see many at 2-5K off depending on model, one dealer told me he as over 60 new 08, as he doesn't want to loose his allotment. Get your own financing, I did, dealer told me flat out he could beat what ever I got, and he did.

As for add on's, that can be good, if they are items you want, not just stale merchandise they can't more or $60+ inspection tags.

PS Buying outside your area and having it shipped is an option too. Buddy of my just bought a Softtail custom this way - even having it shipped - he save 3K

but i'm still in the dreaming/shopping mode not ready to buy part so i kinda hate bothering them, but what the heck it their jobs. but getting info from you guys is cool and prepares me for the battle.
