Can't believe what this seller did to me - Anything like this ever happen to you?

Not right - I had a similar experience, but I was the seller. Selling my house, two bidders got into a bidding war, but told the first person they could have the house for $230K, other bidder later came back with like $10K more - point is that I already verbally committed to the first person. I lost $10k on the deal, but integrity intact.
Like others said, some folks' word isn't worth anything these days. Good thing you didn't lose any actual money over it - just search for another panhead.

Lets get this straight, your deal with this dealer had zero in common with the seller in this case. The dealer sold that bike from under you out of pure greed and I agree this was dead wrong. In the case of the original scenario, an individual that was really hurting and down on his luck so to speak needed cash for his very survival. This changes everything as his choice wasn't driven by greed but rather by need. Herein lie a huge difference that's driven by a fundamental necessity to stay alive.

No a man with honor. It seems to be such an abstract concept to you. I have never been close to starving to death. I have been hungry. I have ate simple country food. The seller wasn't starving to death or he would have spent his gas money on food and had the buyer come pick up the bike. You defend your position adamantly to save face---or you lack.

I think the seller did a less than honorable thing by selling it out from under you, but, if it was me, I would have told him Friday night when you agreed on the deal, I'll see you in the morning and been there ASAP with cash in hand. No way would I (could I) spend the weekend cleaning the garage, etc. You didn't give any specifics of the deal, but a pan in any kind of shape, for any kind of a good price is a fairly hot item.
Sorry, but I think you just learned a little lesson in buying and selling that goes for any kind of merchandise, not just Harleys. Chalk it up to experience and keep on looking, there are more deals out there to be had. Good luck in your search and let us know how you do. JMHO, YMMV, etc.

It didn't take long for the bleeding heart liberals to rationalize what this guy did. I wouldn't doubt if the guy was hurting for money and down on his luck may stem from not keeping his word in other things. It may be an acceptable thing to those in california but then so are alot of other questionable ethics.

Didn't think this was about politics and I never thought it was a California thing. Thought it was about a square deal and honor.
