Default Motorcycle tax credit?

Interesting...

"The stimulus package includes an expansion of a tax credit for people buying new cars and light-duty trucks to also include buyers of motorcycles."

Like me, did you buy a new bike between Jan. 1, 2009 and Feb. 16, 2009? If you did the new law allowing for the deduction of all State and local sales tax means squat to us!

I just read the section of the bill Mr. Pres signed into law on Feb 17 (if interested, it is SEC. 1008). The last paragraph reads as follows:

(e) Effective Date. -- The ammendments made by this section shall apply to purchases on or after the date of the enactment of this Act in taxable years ending after such date.

In other words, you qualify for the deduction only if you bought a new bike on or after Feb 17, 2009 (when it was signed into law). Other 2009 buyers get zip!

Its useless if you don't have the money to buy a new bike.
Lets face it, if you are the 25% bracket what are you gonna save....$300+- depending on the sales tax rate and the price of the bike. Its not enough reason to run out and buy a new one. Its just a little gimme, thats all.
